June, 2005
June 30, 2005: Worldwide Music Downloads. I'm either easily entertained or just appreciative.
June 29, 2005: Journalisming is hard work, but I'm up to it. While the FEC considers possible free speech restrictions on blogs, I remind you, I'm already an on-line magazine.
June 29, 2005: Frankenscience needs a stronger response than "decorum". Love ya, Barbara. Now ramp up the volume.
June 25, 2005: ProgBlog Research Center names board members, fellows. OK, mostly I'm just trying to recognize those who've helped build up the PBRC recommended articles. But it's more fun this way.
June 24, 2005: The New McCarthyism. Republicans, out of ideas, resort to calling those who disagree with them traitors.
June 19, 2005: Don't be fooled! The peddling of lies. Walter Storch, aka Gregory Douglas, aka Peter Stahl. A holocaust denier, pretending to be a lefty.
June 19, 2005: Swift Boat Veterans for the Truth About Hillary. If by truth, you mean horrible lies, of course.
June 18, 2005: This modern world. (No, not Tom Tomorrow, just "this modern world".)
June 17, 2005: How about an apology? Who died and appointed Congressman Dana Milbanks (R-WaPo)?
June 16, 2005: The continuing run of The Di-Fi Follies. Hair. on. fire. must. write. letter.
June 14, 2005: A new experiment: IM Blogging. Don't know if this is interesting, but it's something emo and I wanna try.
June 13, 2005: Urban legend comes true - Save Sesame Street. You know there's a continuing Republican assault on reality when urban legends start coming true.
June 11, 2005: Destroying the rules. Republicans move ever closer to declaring one-party rule. Who'd have thought violations of Robert's Rules of Order could be so scary.
June 10, 2005: Screw my alma mater. Inside source says the ousting of St. Olaf's college president was a conservative hit job.
June 9, 2005: The unannounced hiatus. Now ended.

"Legal experts say there is no law
against using feces as a flag stand"

May, 2005
May 31, 2005: Guest post: Mike Ferner. The Courage to Develop Democracy I'm perfectly happy to take the editorial overflow from the Washington Post, Mike. Thanks.
May 27, 2005: Yes! Rimshot, please! (Ba dump bump) The old wives' tale becomes true.
May 24, 2005: Defused? Or just kicking the can down the road? Pardon me for failing to find the compromise reassuring.
May 18, 2005: Nuclear Weak Arguments.. Frist completely contradicts himself.
May 16, 2005: Newsweek's "Oops": The stray spark.. Don't throw lit matches when you live in a glass armory.
May 12, 2005: PBRC update. I've added the PBRC menu to the front page and added the PBRC Recommended Posts feed to LoopyNews' Politics page.
May 11, 2005: Yes, more religion talk. In which I identify who's actually persecuting Christians in this country.
May 4, 2005: Bookmeme Rebound. "Justice is mine", sayeth the Lord. "Revenge for the bookmeme is mine", sayeth Creek Running North. Paperwight concurs. I obey.
May 2, 2005: Here we go again. Not only is it morally wrong, if we don't start learning from our foreign policy mistakes.... Well, it's bad, m'kay?

Self-parody. No retouch required.
April, 2005
April 30, 2005: Oh, that Stirling Newberry. Yes, I really did laugh so hard I broke my chair.
April 30, 2005: All the news that's wrong or the news network that couldn't.
April 29, 2005: Bush Press Conference, a restaurant review. Substandard fare at exorbitant prices.
April 27, 2005: Stop the Freezer Moms? I guess you can file this under strange but satirical? True but snarky?
April 26, 2005: Max Baucus, on the News Hour. Came right out and said you can't trust the republicans to negotiate in good faith. Waiting for transcript.
April 26, 2005: Pharisees. In response to a post from new BOP News member, RJ Eskow.

ON MAY 15, 2005 across the United States people opposed to the war in Iraq will identify
themselves with one of the Iraqi dead by wearing a number between1 and 100,000.

April 19, 2005: Bolton Postponed. Wow. Really, wow.
April 17, 2005: I've been book memed. Don't worry, I've got antibiotics and am recovering nicely.
April 11, 2005: Well, I've been really busy the last couple of weeks. I surface long enough to do a couple of news items (yesterday) and comment on DeLay's troubles in Is he toast yet?
March, 2005
March 31, 2005: A civics lesson for James Dobson. From the pointless-exercise-in-snarkiness department, as Dobson is a dedicated theocrat who cares not a whit for the constitution.
March 30, 2005: Follow-up on the National Press Club forum on journalism and blogging. No significant change despite adding Matt Yglesias.
March 29, 2005: Been kinda busy the last couple of weeks and haven't written much. But this whole thing with the National Press Club using Jim Guckert aka Jeff Gannon as a way to insult bloggers got my ire up long enough to sit down and write a couple of emails.
March 17, 2005: Cal Thomas: Sheep or Goat? I report, you decide.
March 16, 2005: I received my canned reply from Di-Fi on my email to her about the bankruptcy bill. I see I have much less basis to offer her a thank-you than I thought.
March 15, 2005: No news coverage today, as I was out on an early morning call. And, I fear I have a disappointed reader who was unable to get the image he or she wanted from The Bushimator. If you're still out there, I offer my interpretation of what you were after...
March 14, 2005: On Senators and the world's oldest profession. I apologize for my insensitivity. What? No, not to the Senators!...
March 12, 2005: Updated graphical version of the financial services industry contributions to Senate Democrats. This makes it much clearer, limiting the data to 2000-2004, excluding Kerry's and Liebermans uncharacteristic contributions from their presidential bids and graphing it. [updated with corrected graphic 3/16/06]
March 12, 2005: Yes, I'm on a Josh Marshall. It's all bankruptcy bill.... Fine, but here are some interesting statistics on Senate Democrats. Votes in favor of the debt peonage bill compared with campaign contributions from the financial services industry.
March 11, 2005: An evening of letter writing. My emails to Democratic Senators who voted in favor of debt-peonage.
March 10, 2005: Bi-Partisan Blogospheric Opposition the the Bankruptcy Bill. Because, apparantly, we can all just get along.
March 7, 2005: Rummy needs a lawyer. Even war criminals are entitled to a vigorous defense.

Our new (cough) Secretary of State sure dresses the part, eh? She's also up for a cameo on Star Trek and appears in the next episode of Star Wars as an assistant to Darth Vader.

March 6, 2005: Geek Rant. On XML, feeds and the standards crowd and why they should talk to an end-user once in a while. Or maybe go outside and get rained on. Or something.
March 6, 2005: In today's headlines, I talk at length about Senator Byrd's speech that's been getting flayed all week. I think it's indicative of where our national discourse is that his words garnered so much negative attention, reasoned as they are, when you actually take them in context, but Congressmen calling for nuking Syria or dropping bombs on liberals gets bupkis.
March 5, 2005: Goo goo ga choob. 2nd email in my inbox this morning brought me this. A link to a Beatle's parody cover. Actual recording available for download there...
March 3, 2005: Separated at Birth? I'm convinced, what do you think?
March 1, 2005: In response to David Horowitz' straw men. File it under: "Righteous screed of the week against the horrible lizard people"

February, 2005
February 28, 2005: Gah! Googlebot. What, can't read my robots.txt file, all of a sudden?
February 27, 2005: File under "Talking Points". Using the new ProgBlog Research Center, I ask: "Is 'torture' compatible with 'democracy'?" Discuss.
February 27, 2005: The ProgBlog Research Center is open. What the heck is that? Well, surprise, I wrote an article to explain that. In short, it's a search engine, directory and headline archive for the Indy Weblogs community and their readers.
February 23, 2005: Yes, maybe it's just silly, but I'm not the only one having fun with that anti-AARP ad. You takes your funny where you find it.
February 22, 2005: Again, not so swift. The lovely (ahem) people who brought us the Swift Boat Vets are working on another tasteful campaign. This time, they're going after the AARP. You might have seen the ad. But in a Dr. Laniac exclusive, I have the next ad in the campaign!
February 20, 2005: When Buddy Holly's plane crashed, they called it "the day the music died". Well, Hunter S. Thompson is gone and the American dream left with him.
February 19, 2005: Tools for the Indy-Weblogs community. Feeds in, feeds out.
February 18, 2005: Joementum the Useless. I just heard him endorsing John Negroponte as the choice for National Intelligence Director. Plus, is it just me, or is this water we're in getting warmer?
February 15, 2005: BatesLine, target of intimidation. The Tulsa World tries to stifle criticism with lawyers and a bogus set of claims.
February 11, 2005: Letters, we get letters.... Monkey Mail.

February 11, 2005: In Defense of "Jeff Gannon" aka Jim Guckert. Well, sort of.... As a pseudonymous writer with no journalistic credentials, I just wanted to weigh in on the personal side this guckert-up situation.
February 11, 2005: The debate over that border control plan in Congress (here, here, and here) has a lot of people wearing tinfoil hats. Including people in Congress and their staffs. I think there's a misunderstanding about why the "waiver of all laws" phrase is in there, but once it's there, it's scary either way.
February 10, 2005: Whoa! Senator Franken? He's good enough, he's smart enough and doggone it, people like him. [update: Nope, not so much. He says he's gonna keep doing Air America Radio. 2008 is still on the table.]
February 2, 2005: Senate Democrats positions on Gonzales. Let me know if there are updates. (update 2/3 - Final results - 36 no votes.)
February 2, 2005: State of the Union, 2005. Get out your stuffed Spongebob Squarepants and beat the crap out of the TV.
February 1, 2005: Reminder, the vote on Gonzales is coming up this week. Contact your senators. See this newsfare post for more info.

January, 2005
January 29, 2005: In followup to the No on Gonzales effort going on at DailyKos, a No on Gonzales database has been set up, listing endorsing bloggers. The database is at http://newsfare.com/no-to-gonzales/.
January 26, 2005: Hacks and Propagandists. It's not just the taxpayer-funded paid shillery that concerns me.
January 25, 2005: No on Gonzales. Adding my voice.

From DailyKos:
With this nomination, we have arrived at a crossroads as a nation. Now is the time for all citizens of conscience to stand up and take responsibility for what the world saw, and, truly, much that we have not seen, at Abu Ghraib and elsewhere. We oppose the confirmation of Alberto Gonzales as Attorney General of the United States, and we urge the Senate to reject him.
January 25, 2005: Musings on the DNC chair race and the direction of the Democratic party. I'm not a flip-flopper, I'm just conflicted.
January 21, 2005: Defending the Republic. An editorial from 1792, during a battle for the future of democracy in America, retains its currency.
January 18, 2005: Gak! Pttui! Another reason to complain about Di-Fi.
January 18, 2005: Computer problems -- resolved. LoopyNews and my database powered apps are back on line.
January 12, 2005: Nearing completion of my latest musical project, Solace In Dark Times.
January 6, 2005: The Boxer Rebellion. Complain about one Senator, the other comes through. Thanks, Senator Boxer!
January 1, 2005: Happy New Year. New year's resolutions? Bah humbug. But I will be back with daily news headlines (rather than semi-weekly), new articles, new music and new cut-n-paste cartoons like Spock and Cheney, here.
