Websites
While LoopyNews carries over 300 feeds, not all publications on carry headline feeds. Some of the ones I can't do without I've listed below. Some have feeds, but I think they deserve mention anyway.
BuzzFlash - Another good alt news source, but without a headline feed
Counterpunch - Alexander Cockburn was always my favorite writer for the nation. He and Jeffrey St. Claire have their own publication and it's hard hitting.
Greg Palast - A muckraker of fine caliber, Mr. Palast digs up what the US mainstream outlets don't. If you've read his book, The Best Democracy Money Can Buy, then you'll want to follow up on his continuing research on the website. If you haven't, reading his website will make you want to read the book.
Ironic Times - A weekly broadsheet that consists of hilarious topical headlines.
The Memory Hole - Russ Kick (of Disinfo.com and Everything You Know is Wrong). The Memory Hole will give you some pretty unique leads, but Russ' standard for reporting isn't always the strictest. Like the Disinfo books, not everything will always pass muster, but it can often lead you to find lots on which you can find good backup. One of the specialties of the site is rescued materials that other's have tried to remove from the web.
The Onion - Along with Jon Stewart of The Daily Show, the one of the best "fake" news outlets on the planet.
Salon - They have feeds available, but Salon is one of the finest online publications. Give them some money for a subscription.
This American Life - My favorite radio show. Ira Glasser is Mr. Radio. He can put together the most intriguing tales of ordinary life, perfectly cast for radio. Almost every episode of the series is available online for listening.
Tom Tomorrow - political cartoonist, satirist... and blogger.
